What is a social enterprise?

Until I researched the company more thoroughly, I wasn't exactly positive what a social enterprise was and how it operated. A social enterprise is essentially a business that was created to further a social purpose in a financially sustainable way. Wanderer Bracelets breaks this down further in a lovely way to make it easier to understand, so here it is straight from the little information booklet that accompanies each order:

Community. When parents have reliable work in their community, families can stay together - and they no longer have to leave their villages to find jobs.

Opportunity. Earning steady income gives families the power to save money for the future (or invest in education or medical care).

Creativity. Every time Wanderer artisans carve a bracelet, they preserve the artistic techniques that have been passed down from generation to generation.

So shop for a cause and shop with a purpose! It is 2016, so most people (like me!) have adapted to shopping online, and what could be better than buying some beautifully carved bracelets while supporting artisans in Bali?!

How are the bracelets made?

The pendants of each bracelet are delicately carved from water buffalo bone. Now, I know what you are thinking, but don't freak! The water buffalo are not killed for their bones in order to make these beautiful bracelets. Water buffalo are essential in the Balinese culture and are depended on to assist the farmers. Once the water buffalo pass away from natural causes though, nothing goes to waste. For generations, the Balinese have used water buffalo bones to make tools, art, and jewelry.

After each pendant is carved, it is then polished and ready for the next stage of development. The bracelets are weaved from durable nylon thread and then ready to be sent out! Another benefit to using water buffalo bone is that it fights ivory trade which, in turn, helps save the elephants! Double Yay!

 

Let me tell you a little more...

I do have to tell you all though, that once you order from Wanderer Bracelets, you will fall in love. Since each bracelet is carved by hand, they are all a little bit different which makes each one unique. Each and every order comes with a little handwritten note thanking you for your support. The packaging alone speaks volumes about the company and their love for each and every one of their customers! The customer service is incredible and I have always gotten a response to all of my inquiries, whether it be about an order or the product itself.

What I adore most about these bracelets is that there is so much symbolism behind each one. Symbolism is a huge part of what Wanderer Bracelets is all about! Each one tells a story, and each individual has their own, unique story. What one bracelet symbolizes for me can symbolize something entirely different for someone else.
